Standard Mileage Rates for 2007 through 2019

Use the 2018 rates for 2018 income tax returns

When taking a deduction for your business driving, you must keep track of the business miles and total miles driven. You can calculate your deduction using the rates shown below or you can deduct a percentage of your actual vehicle costs.

These rates are updated every year by the Internal Revenue Service. They apply to cars, as well as vans, pickups, and panel trucks.

 

Rates effective January 1 through December 31, 2019:

  • 58 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 20 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations 

Rates effective January 1 through December 31, 2018:

  • 54.5 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 18 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

Rates effective January 1 through December 31, 2017:

  • 53.5 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 17 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

Rates effective January 1 through December 31, 2016:

  • 54 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 19 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

  • 50 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 16.5 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

  • 55 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 27 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

Rates effective January 1 through June 30, 2008:

  • 50.5 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 19 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

Rates effective July 1 through December 31, 2008:

  • 58.5 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 27 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

Rates effective January 1 through December 31, 2007:

  • 48.5 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 20 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
